Both Puritize Home and HomeSoap are similarly priced. While, technically, HomeSoap is cheaper, we strongly recommend against making a decision based on savings of just $0.04. On the other hand, if you are looking for a UV-C sanitizing product based on price alone, smaller products, such as the PhoneSoap 3, sell for $79.95.

Effectiveness Against Germs

Both products have an advertised effectiveness of 99.9% against most common household bacteria and viruses. Though, it is worth noting, that Puritize Home has been tested by an independent lab to be up to 99.9994% effective against germs such as the H1N1 virus, sometimes called swine flu. Puritize also has over 99.9% effectiveness against other germs (such as CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19) discussed in the next section.

Tested Against Which Common Germs?

While examining the above data, it’s important to note that Puritize Home was tested by an independent full-service laboratory specializing in device testing and using ASTM test methods while it appears that PhoneSoap did their own testing in a “laboratory setting.” 

*Importantly, the data on the PhoneSoap website regarding the effectiveness against the cited germs was a blanket “99.99%” as opposed to giving the exact effectiveness on a per-germ basis.

Length Of Time Until Sanitization

Is it Easy to Clean?

The Puritize Home opens from the top, giving you easy access to wipe down the entire inside of the box. On the other hand, the HomeSoap sanitizing box opens from the side, meaning you may have a harder time reaching your hand all the way in to easily wipe the inside of it if it happens to get dirty.

Does it Use Heat to Sterilize?

Neither the Puritize Home nor the HomeSoap products use heat to sanitize; both use UV-C light.

USB Charging Ports

Both products are large enough to fit a number of devices at the same time. However, if you want to charge multiple non-USB-C products, such as a pair of phones or a phone and a tablet, you may not be able to charge both of them while using HomeSoap. 

On the other hand, you will easily be able to charge up to three devices while you sanitize them with the Puritize Home sanitizing box.

Battery Life

Neither the HomeSoap nor the Puritize Home sanitizing boxes can be unplugged and continue to be used. They both must stay plugged into an outlet in order to continue sanitizing.

Lifetime of UV-C Bulbs

While both Puritize and PhoneSoap offer to replace their bulbs for free if they happen to burn out before their estimated lifetime, Puritize’s bulbs are estimated to last up to 1000 hours longer. (Hint: that’s up to 6,000 more uses with Puritize Home!)

Warranty

Both products offer similar warranties that allow you to make a claim regarding factory defects for up to one year. Neither warranty covers misuse or damage due to use.

Capacity and Dimensions

Puritize Home has substantially more space for what is essentially the same price. With more than double the volume, you can fit many more items inside the Puritize home than the HomeSoap — especially awkwardly shaped objects such as baby bottles and toys.

Babyproof or Baby Safe?

The HomeSoap sanitizing box has no way to secure it from babies or small children, so you will have to keep it out of reach. On the other hand, the Puritize Home sanitizing box can be placed anywhere and easily secured with a 3-digit code.

Number of Products

If you are looking for the best large sanitizer to leave at home for the best price, Puritize has a substantially larger capacity, better effectiveness, and has been laboratory tested by an independent party. However, if you are looking for more choices when it comes to size and portability, PhoneSoap has eight distinct products to choose from, while Puritize currently has just one.
